I agree reducing the framerate on battery is good. 240hz on battery is ridiculous. But maybe an option to 120hz as well.

Another useless laptop from Asus that is too stubborn to understand their cooling design with partial obstructed vents can't be more efficient than a fully open vents design. But I guess you will need more than 60 IQ to realize that. Their "create pressure" logic has been demonstrated to be useless because their coolers are way to weak for that. I mean asus has a long history of not understanding physics.
What i think it happened here is Asus sabotaging their own line to make gamers buy their premium gaming laptop brands and not the TUF. Otherwise I can't believe a company can be that stupid.

Asus should have just given 144hz with 100% srgb in tuf. as for those who want 240hz or more they could go for their premium laptops.

    Salut Andrei,

vom avea zilele acestea un video cu laptopul? As vrea sa vad calitatea materialelor mai mult. Sau ce ne poti spune de calitatea constructiei?

    Mersi!

Should be up in a few more days. Not sure about the tablet part, never tried it, but I'd it should work as before

The honeycomb should have had vents on it all and not just part of it to massively improve the cooling, it seems like the cooling is no different to last gen model, i do wish they had made a ROG Strix model in the same chassis as this layout of the chassis can take to a meeting looks formal were their new ones just scream gamer

I'm not entirely sure how much that would have helped. I'm having a follow-up article on performance and temperatures at a couple of different scenarios, should be up in a few days

Can you put the link to the store where you had bought this variant?
I did see it listed on a website with RTX3070 for the same price but 144hz panel.

How do you know the panel type? Is there a way I can look it see at the package? Pre-ordered one and will send it back if it has a panda panel.

you can't tell without opening it up. Once you open it, run Hwinfo and it will show the exact panel ID (or you can check the panelID in Device manager >> Display)

Hello , if u connect this laptop to a normal 27 full hd 144 mhtz or more (through a usb c to displayport cable of course)it would have the same performance?

    • Andrei Girbea

      February 15, 2021 at 11:17 am

It will return slightly higher fps on an external monitor. I'll still working on the follow-up where we test QHD performance on an external monitor, which should be up very soon. Srt for the late reply and delay

Hello, I just bought this laptop, could anyone tell me what should I buy for the second ram slot? I'd like to uppgrade to 32 go, mine came with 1x16go and I don't know the reference so I don't know which model I should buy.

HWinfo is a small piece of software that will show you the exact kind of RAM DIMM in your unit. Try to get the same one

Any idea if you can use RAM with XMP? A15 2020 couldn't use it.
Is it possible to set it ON in BIOS?

        What should I choose?
        Lenovo legion 5 Ryzen 5 5600H Rtx3060 130W or
        Asus tuf a15 Ryzen 7 5800H Rtx3070 90W

I was just wondering does the 240hz variant have primus so can be avoided with an external display? Been looking at laptops all week and only came across mux and primus. But can't find the info on any retailer I found.

    Thanks

    Hi There,

Could you tell me where you can can select the different modes ? Silent, Performance, Turbo. I don't seem to see it in Windows. Would it be on the bios ?

    Best regards,

Between this one and the Strix G15, which one has the better thermals under load in your opinion?

    • Andrei Girbea

      March 3, 2021 at 11:14 am

they should be close in terms of internal temperatures, but the Strix G15 gets more powerful GPU options and a more competent thermal module.

Hi! Does someone know why it is almost impossible to buy it? Asus deleted it from its site, and the only way to buy it seems to be through Digital River Ireland Ltd (https://estore.asus.com/it/asus-tuf-gaming-a15-fa506qr-az001t.html) which is known as a scam company… seems crazy to me!

give it some time, this was available in stores locally and now is out of stock. Should be worldwide available at some point

Hello, I bought this laptop a few weeks ago(144hz version) and experienced what I think is coil whine during games. And I wanted to ask if you experienced the same thing while testing?

    • Andrei Girbea

      March 14, 2021 at 10:46 am

i did not, but this is a common and random issue with modern laptops. send it back for a replacement if you still can

I wonder if the model with Ryzen 5800H but GeForce RTX 3060 GPU runs a little cooler than 3070. That's the one launched in India.

    • Andrei Girbea

      March 17, 2021 at 11:48 am

haven't tested it yet, but I wouldn't expect it to run significantly cooler

    Hey,
Can you tell me if the usb c port with dp is wired to the gpu or will it just use CPU Graphics.. i'm thinking to Connect an Index which is not compatible to HDMI and will Need some more power than cpu can deliver.

    • Andrei Girbea

      March 17, 2021 at 11:49 am

I no longer have this around to have a look, but the USB-C is DP and should go through the dGPU

    March 18, 2021 at 3:41 pm

I just contacted Asus Support,… if anybody else need this info:

"After an internal check of your request, I will inform you that USB-C is receiving the signal from the GPU, Nvidia graphics card. The HDMI interface, however, from the IGPU."

The ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506QR-HN006T is sold basically everywhere in Germany with a 144Hz Screen. So did you get a better unit for review purposes or have they actually labeled it wrong everywhere it's sold?

    • Andrei Girbea

      April 5, 2021 at 1:36 pm

I just got a different configuration. I'd contact Asus about it and ask if they'll bring the 240Hz screen to your country

        June 25, 2021 at 6:23 pm

        Hello,

did you receive any information regarding the IPS panel in Germany? Does it really only run 144Hz?

On the official german ASUS website, it is advertised with a 240Hz screen, and on the website of one of the biggest tech retailers (Saturn) in Germany the Hz is not mentioned in the product information.

        Maybe you got more Info.

        Thanks in advance.

        Greetings

the panel options vary between regions and even stores, so I can't tell what you'll be getting in DE. We're also working on reviewing the 144 Hz A15 model, if interested, with the 60% sRGB panel

Hey appreciate this review very much as I just got this laptop in India – model FA506QM-HN008TS with the RTX 3060. Unfortunately in my country the cheap Panda 144 Hz color-inaccurate panel is the only option. Except for the panel, this laptop is very good, no heating issues in every day use even on Turbo or Performance.

For heavy gaming, CPU encoding etc, if you just raise the laptop a little by keeping two USB flash drives below it on the two back corners, the temperature drops further by few degrees. Or you can just get an active or passive cooling pad.

No biometrics of any kind is always a massive disappointment for most gaming laptops but due to abundant USB ports, I can get a USB fingerprint sensor (since my mouse is always Bluetooth Low Energy anyway).

The SSD I got in my model is SK Hynix DRAM-less one. I wonder if an upgrade to SK Hynix P31 Gold 1 TB or a Samsung SSD improves the performance. Can anyone test that to see if it still throttles?

Finally I want to know if we can replace the panel somehow? It's not very bright either.

in theory, you could replace the display, but that might end your warranty

hi, quick question, is the SSD still run as hot as the 2020 model since its next to the heatpipe ? i have bought the 2020 model and opted for 48w battery just so i can change the ssd location to the other side and use the extra HDD cage as extra storage

    • Andrei Girbea

      May 18, 2021 at 5:05 pm

Still runs fairly hot, yet. See the SSD tests' pic

Beware: this notebook has compulsory Modern Standby / Connected standby which means it takes a considerable amount of power even in "Sleep" mode. S3 Sleep of ACPI is just not implemented at all by ASUS at the firmware level. I would say this is its biggest problem/flaw which UltrabookReview failed to mention

      It`s true !
If you use this notebook in your work – i don`t recomend !
You cannot go to sleep and save your work when you travel between locations.

I had terrible experience with ASUS TUF A15 gaming laptop, so far DISPLAY, WIFI and motherboard has been replaced. i have not been able to use it properly as it had problems and had to be reset or sent to service center for repair and asus is denying replacement as they have 7 days replacement policy which customer is not informed at the time of purchase or its mentioned on invoice etc… Over 40 tickets raised with ASUS customer support multiple parts replaced but no replacement. Asus is happy to keep your laptop and repair it unless you are out of warranty irrespective of whether you are able to use it or not. So it this value for money. Did i pay for this laptop so i can work on it or purchased for repairs etc..
