Here is my list of improvements I would like to see in future Legion 5 and 7 Pro:

    – MiniLED 2k screen with better color reproduction and black levels. Ideally, near perfect coverage of AdobeRGB spectrum. 165Hz is fine, no need for 240Hz to cut down on panel costs.
    – Much improved audio by adding at least 4, preferably 6 speakers in total.
    – a larger and HAPTIC only trackpad. Time to get rid of the old pressure trackpads!
    – Windows Hello capable IR camera.

Coupled with a future power-frugal but potent AMD processor, I would switch to such a laptop in a couple of years when my current L5 Pro from 2021 (Ryzen 5800H, 3070) no longer fits the bill.

Which one would you recommend more, (let's say they are equally priced), the Alienware m16, or the legion 7i pro both equipped with the hx i9 CPU and 4080 gpu

hard to say. You'll find the reviews for both on the site, you'll have to balance the pros and cons based on your needs

Lenovo 7i pro Gen 9, what did you think? I'm trying a 4080 setup that maintains good temps and doesn't cost 3000+. Acer predator helios 2024 would be a good comparison, thanks.

For me Lenovo needs to get 18", possibility to have weaker CPU's (13700 for example) with top class GPU's like HP does in their OMEN

I've had this for about 2 months now, cost was almost 3000 euros.

There are downsides one could say. From my perspective it could have had more ports +1-2 more usb on the sides at least.

The screen I do agree is not that amazing, but honestly for me it's more than enough. While at home the laptop is always connected to an external 27" QHD screen, and for while on the go the screen is enough for work and for some gaming as well.

Have tried an asus before buying the legion, the coil whine just drew me up the walls. It does not bother everyone, but it's like that faint sound you hear from an old set of speakers or an old TV, it's not deafening but it's there and it's annoying. I had an asus tuf with 1660TI, so I said ok go from asus tuf to rog scar 16 should be a good upgrade. Not for me it wasn't, the laptop itself feels too plasticy for how expensive it is, also it was quite hot, even hotter then this legion and I didn't like the big flashy RGB Logo either. I'm not a teenager anymore, can't bring an ultra flashy laptop to work people will look at me weird. The legion is a bit more down to earth on this side.

This lenovo also feels more "metallic" hence it's a bit heavy but I see that as an advantage. Camera is ok-ish, I mean it's a gaming laptop, none of these laptops have good quality cameras but for a basic teams/webex/zoom meeting it's alright.

Overall for me this was a purchase I did not regret, not at all. It's more on the "silent" side of ultra RGB flashy logos and what not, while it does deliver quite good raw performance and that is what I wanted. I use it with a cooling pad, but even without it while the fans can get quite loud and the laptop quite hot. I never had any issues with thermal throttling(even while there was 31celsius in my room). Seems the cooling does it's job quite well, given that the i9 and the rtx 4080 are known to be running really hot.

My only actual gripe is the software. It came preinstalled with a crapton of bloat, basically when I saw how bloated windows was I said forget it,I'm not going to uninstall them 1 by 1. Got my windows 11 stick and did a fresh install. Still even after a fresh win install you still vantage for basic fan control.

I never liked asus armory crate and aura core, and I don't like lenovo vantage either. As far as I've read, it's pretty much the same thing with msi and other brands, lately the software has become too bloated. I just want some customizable fan control, I don't care about "lenovo smart performance". This feels like those old "gaming booster" malwares you downloaded from the internet while they promised to "download more ram". Vantage is filled with just so much spam, but I saw someone on reddit make a custom software for basic fan control and so on, will have to try that out.

      Thanks for the feedback, appreciated!

Just a heads-up, I find it interesting that you found the Scar to be running hotter than this one. My tests are saying othwerwise.

Could be I got a bad model, dunno but honestly the asus I tried was running quite hot. Did a bios update, reinstalled win 11, drivers etc. What I've read is that the scar 18 has a lot better cooling compared to scar 16 so that could also be a reason.

Don't know honestly, I've tested that scar 16 and decided to switch to lenovo. The overall build quality somehow feels better then asus, and in the last 2 or so months since I've bought it, I can't say I regret the purchase. It depends on each person what they want from a laptop, what they will use it for.

    No 17" models? No buy.

Unfortunately the Omen has the same issue, only 2 sRGB screen options. If it weren't for that I'd even overlook the 16:9 screen and call it perfection, the keyboard is mechanical after all.

Hello, what does it mean "The LAN port is reversed now, though, and only support Gigabit speeds"? If my lan speed will be less than 1 gigabit the internet won't work via lan port?

Previous gen had a 2.5 Gbps Lan card, this gen has a 1G card. That's the top limit

Hi Andrei, it looks like the Legion 9 will be coming out after all.

So this will be the new flagship. The screen appears to be the same as the existing 3.2k MiniLED on Lenovo's Slim series.

This comes right after the Lenovo Legion Slim 5, which comes with a 120Hz OLED display now.

I had been hoping that the Legion 9 would have an OLED option – maybe the same 16" 3.2k 120Hz OLED that Asus is using on their 3D laptops.

Yes, I'm aware of it, but cannot comment due to NDA. We'll have a intro article in due time.

Now that the 9i is out, it does seem like Lenovo may have deliberately kept the Legion 7i as an inferior laptop for selling the Legion 9i.

On the other hand, the Legion 7i does seem to be one of the more lower priced 4090 laptop options, with only the HP Omen series competing in price.

Not really. They're different types of devices. The 9i is a portable format, the Pro 7i is a full-size allrounder.

another reason (screen) to skip this generation of gamig laptops. Their are not compleate.
It is better to wait for REAL performance jump and REAL image quality progress (miniled)
For now, one laptop is ok but do not have miniled, another have miniled, but has another issues.

Im using Asus with R5800 and RTX3070 and there is o point to buy this generation.
I want to make a change, but when reading reviews like this… Im starting to think about strong handheld such a Ayaneo KUN.
This is a more intresting toy for me for mobile gaming, than buying another gaming laptop with minimum or none technological progress.
Im using Steam Deck more often than my gaming laptop, and handhelds since Deck realese, evolve so much quicker and have so much progress than gaming laptops…

For example KUN is a beast and it will allow you to play basicly any PC game with medium settings and when FSR3 will be implemented….. oh boy oh boy!!

Given the latest reviews about the pro9 with RTX 4090. It seems I made the best purchase with this one. While each laptop has their ups and downs, depending on what is important for each person when they buy a laptop.

The extreme price difference between a pro7 with RTX 4080 to 4090 and add to that another price boost for the pro9 with 4090, is just too much in my opinion. I simply can not justify such a high price.

Depending on the country. A pro7 with 4080 will cost about 3000$, with 4090 3500-3600$, then you have the pro9 with 4090 at 4000+ $

I simply can not justify the cost, no matter how I look at it. Even the pro7 that I bought seems expensive, but going another 1000$at least, just so I get myself a sexier laptop with maybe 15% more performance increase in gaming? 15% of 3000$ is not 1000 or more $ if my math checks out.
